Saffron Walden homecare provider brings generations together in school partnership

1st April 2019

The Saffron Walden branch of Manorcourt Homecare, which provides personal care and support to people in their own homes across the area, is launching a project with a local school to bring generations together in the local community.

The team from the Saffron Walden branch started an initiative with the Dame Bradbury School, in which some of the homecare customers visit the school to spend time with the children in reception class.

The first visit took place on Tuesday 19th March, with eight homecare customers spending the morning with the 4 and 5-year-olds.  They chatted with them and joined in with activities and games, each learning about each other’s lives and backgrounds. Visits will now continue every half term.

Branch Manager Emily Ranoble said, “Our first visit to the school was absolutely wonderful. We had such enthusiastic interest from our customers when we invited them to get involved and they really enjoyed spending time with the children. One of our customers, even said, it had ‘recharged his happiness batteries’.

“Bringing together people from different generations and backgrounds is such a lovely way to spark new conversations and interests and we try to make sure that alongside the services we provide to our customers, we support them by helping them to socialise and feel integrated in the local community.

“My thanks go to everyone at the Dame Bradbury School for working with us on this project which I hope will be of real benefit to the children and our customers for many months to come.”

Verity Brownbridge, Head of Early Years at Dame Bradury’s School confirmed, “The Reception classes (4-5 year olds) at Dame Bradbury’s have been really looking forward to welcoming visitors from Manorcourt Homecare. They have been sharing their books and artwork and have been talking about our classroom and their favourite activities.”

The Saffron Walden team provides support to community members in Saffron Walden and the surrounding villages offering services such as domestic help, dementia care, personal care, respite care, supported living and live-in care.
